Lambi, March 2: Three followers of Dera Sacha Sauda allegedly entered a gurdwara without removing their footwear and threatened a preacher (kathavachak) at Bidowali village, near Badal village, in Lambi Assembly segment today.

Earlier in the day, the preacher, Kuldeep Singh of nearby Mann village, had reportedly appealed to the public from the gurdwara’s public address system to shun dera culture.

Kuldeep alleged, “Three persons from the village entered the gurdwara wearing footwear and without covering their head. They threatened me with dire consequences if I continued preaching here.

They wrongly accused me of speaking against the dera head.”Sikh residents of the village, including women, gathered in the gurdwara and condemned the incident. They demanded a fair probe and strict action against the accused.

“If no action is taken against the Premis, the police will be responsible for any untoward incident,” they said.A police party led by the Malout SP visited the spot and recorded the statements of Kuldeep and others present.

Jasveer Singh, SHO, Lambi police station, said, “A case has been registered under Sections 295-A, 506 and 120 of the IPC against Pardeep Singh, Jagsir Singh and Mohan Singh of Bidowali village. A manhunt has been launched.”

Pardeep works as a teacher on an ad hoc basis at Government Primary School in the village.Police personnel have been deployed in the village as a precautionary measure.
