Chandigarh, May 9: Thundershowers, accompanied by strong winds, lashed the tricity on Tuesday afternoon. The rain lasted nearly 45 minutes and led to waterlogging at several places. The observatory of the Chandigarh Meteorological Centre recorded 4.8 mm of rainfall.

Surender Paul, Director, Chandigarh Meteorological Centre, said the sky would remain partly cloudy on Wednesday. A heavy hailstorm hit the higher reaches of Shimla on Tuesday. The weather office has warned of thunderstorms, squalls and gusty winds in Haryana and Chandigarh till Friday.

Some mischief mongers kept spreading rumours on the social media and circulated messages stating that high-velocity winds toppled vehicles in Chandigarh. Paul reiterated that there was no need to panic and residents should not pay heed to those spreading rumours. The rain brought down the temperature significantly. The maximum temperature in the city was 34.5°C, four degree below normal, while the minimum temperature also witnessed a dip of one degree and settled at 23.4°C.
