Chandigarh, April 1: The Punjab Higher Education and Languages Minister Mr. Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the sad demise of renowned poet Kulwant Grewal, Taran Gujral, Principal Tarsem Bahia and Bhangra Ustad Dr. Inderjit.
In a statement issued here today Mr. Bajwa while expressing sympathy with the families of the departed great personalities, has prayed to the almighty to give strength to the families to bear the irreparable loss and grant peace to the eternal souls.
On the invaluable contribution of Prof. Kulwant Grewal, Mr. Bajwa said that he has incorporated the spirituality, social, cultural, political and literary identity of Punjabi poetry in the essence of his poetry. Prof. Grewal was also awarded the Shiromani Punjabi Poet Award in 2016 by the Punjab Languages Department.
Referring to the contribution of Principal Tarsem Bahia, he said that apart from being a distinguished scholar, he always raised his voice and fought for the public welfare starting from his student days.
Paying homage to Dr. Inderjit, the minister said that Dr. Inderjit was a prominent Punjabi scholar and promoter of Punjabi culture. Apart from serving as the registrar of GNDU, Amritsar and Principal of Sukhchaina Khalsa College, Phagwara, he was instrumental in bringing Bhangra to international prominence.
Describing Mr. Taran Gujral as the highest figure in Punjabi poetry, Mr. Bajwa said that he had adhered to the principle of expressing the sentiments of the common man throughout his literary career.
