Amritsar, May 19: The rural police nabbed two notorious gangsters after a chase near Budha Theh village on Friday. An exchange of fire also took place between the police and gangsters.

The police recovered two pistols, 13 live cartridges and two magazines from their possession.

Parampal Singh, SSP, Amritsar (rural), said the Mehta police received a tip-off that some suspicious persons were moving in the Majitha area. The police intercepted the gangsters near Budha Theh village.

However, they fled after firing at the police party. On the run in a car, they took away a tractor from a farmer at gunpoint. While escaping they fired at the police party and entered a narrow street of the village. They entered a house and reached the rooftop and again started firing. The police team shifted the occupants of the house to a safer place. The police retaliated with counter-fire and nabbed the gangsters.

Those arrested were identified as Balraj Singh, alias Buri, of Basant Kot village and Harman of Umarpura village in Majitha.

The SSP said the duo were facing many criminal cases. As per preliminary investigations, Harman was wanted by the police in a murder case that took place in Fatehgarh Churian.
Their gang also extorted Rs 15 lakh in the Mehta area and injured a person with bullets. He said it was also found that another notorious gangster Pavittar Singh, who was currently in Singapore, had been supporting these two gangsters. The pistols seized in today’s operation were also arranged by Pavittar.

A case has been registered against them.
