New Delhi, August 16: While the BJP cancelled all party events and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal cancelled his birthday celebrations on Thursday amid indications of deteriorating health of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the opposition decided to get on with its planned conclave called Sanjha Virasat Bachao.
Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who visited AIIMS to see Vajpayee, has now reached Talkatora Stadium to attend the opposition event which former JDU leader Sharad Yadav has organised.
Yadav’s aide Ram Bahor told The Tribune, “Our programme is going on as usual. Former PM Manmohan Singh and Congress president Rahul Gandhi are attending.”
The event, which Yadav started last year, is also being attended by Left leaders CPI’s Sudhakar Reddy and CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury.
Gandhi has arrived at the event venue Talkatora Stadium and will address the gathering.
Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, meanwhile, cancelled his birthday celebrations on Thursday day as a mark of respect to an ailing Vajpayee.
Kejriwal tweeted, “I request party volunteers and well wishers not to celebrate his birthday in view of deteriorating health condition of former Prime Minister Sh Atal Behari Vajpayee ji. Volunteers are requested to refrain from visiting CM residence.”
