Muktsar, January 29: Inspector Bikram Brar, who was part of the police team involved in Gounder’s encounter, today dismissed the allegation of fake encounter by the gangster’s family as baseless. He challenged the family to show any evidence to prove it.
He said he neither studied in Jalandhar nor played any sport there. He claimed that the encounter started around 6 pm on Friday, lasted about 20 minutes and the first information in this regard was given to the Khuiyan Sarwar police station, near Abohar, and within minutes to the Rajasthan Police.
“The operation was carried out on the reports that Gounder was moving in Tarn Taran, Ferozepur, Muktsar and Fazilka districts. The police had laid nakas too. My seniors, including two AIGs Gurmeet Chauhan and Sandeep Goyal, were present at the encounter site and we were 23 policemen in all.
“I have some relatives in Abohar, but not in Rajasthan. I never met Gounder and not even interrogated him in any case in the past,” said Brar, while speaking on the phone. He claimed that they (Gounder and Brar himself) had an age difference of 10 years. “I studied up to Class XII at YPS, Patiala, and later started learning boxing at the NIS there,” Brar said.
