Vigilance nabs JE, private person for taking bribe of Rs. 90,000

Chandigarh, December 21: Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed a Junior Engineer (JE) of PSPCL and private person red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 90,000.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said JE Malkit Singh posted at Hundesra office of PSPCL, SAS Nagar district and Pradeep Kumar alias Mintu, an electrical shop owner were nabbed red handed by Vigilance team for accepting bribe of Rs. 90,000 from complainant Kushal Pal of village Khelan, tehsil Derabassi, SAS Nagar. The complainant running an Atta Chakki (Small flour mill) in his village has approached the VB and informed that the J.E came to his Atta Chaki in the morning and demanded Rs. three lakh bribe in lieu of not filing a false case of power theft. In this connection, the complainant has already paid Rs two lakh as a graft to the accused in two instalments of one lakh each through the co-accused shop owner Mintu.

After verifying his information, a VB team led by DSP Ajay Kumar under supervision of AIG Ashish Kapoor laid a trap and the accused J.E along with private person were arrested on the spot while accepting bribe of Rs. 90,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses.

The spokesperson informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police station SAS Nagar and further investigation was under progress.
