Virbhadra Singh tests positive for swine flu; admitted in IGMC

Shimla, January 28: Former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has been admitted to the IGMC here having been diagnosed with swine flu. Official sources at the hospital said Virbhadra Singh was admitted to the hospital with symptoms of cold and chest congestion yesterday. “A team of doctors examined him. His blood samples were tested at the laboratory. The samples have tested positive for H1N1 virus”, the doctors said.

After the report confirmed the virus, a team of doctors is keeping a round the clock vigil on him and trying for his recovery. “The former Chief Minister is under treatment for H1N1 virus and is recovering and is feeling better today”, sources said.

Dr Ravi Sharma, who along with the IGMC Medical Superintendent visited Virbhadra Singh, said that the former Chief Minister was under treatment and his condition was stable.

Meanwhile, 45 persons have been tested positive for the H1NI virus, which has claimed the life of nine persons in the state so far.

The death toll reached nine as three more deaths were reported from Kangra and Shimla in the last 48 hours. Health authorities at the IGMC, Tanda Medical College and other hospitals have directed its staff, visitors and patients to take preventive and protective measures to check the spread of the virus.

According to the surveillance team of health officials monitoring the flu, out of 56 patients tested for the H1N1 virus from January 24 to January 27 in the state, 19 patients have tested positive. The total number of those tested positive has increased to 45, revealed said.

H1NI deaths are from Kangra (2), Una (2), Mandi (2) and one each from Shimla and Bilaspur. Kangra has reported the maximum 18 cases, while 13 cases have been reported from Shimla.
