Fatehgarh Sahib, December 27: Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh today announced the creation of a new sub-tehsil at Chanarthal comprising 55 villages of the Fatehgarh Sahib subdivision.
He was here for the annual Shaheedi Jor Mela to commemorate the sacrifice of Guru Gobind Singh’s younger sons and mother. Unlike previous years, no political conferences were held, as decided by major political parties last week.

Addressing mediapersons at Fatehgarh Sahib Gurdwara, Capt Amarinder refused to answer any political question, saying he had only come to pay tributes to the Sahibzade. He was presented a “siropa” by head granthi Bhai Harpal Singh. He was accompanied by Cabinet Minister Sadhu Singh Dharamsot and MLAs Kuljit Nagra and Balbir Sidhu.
He announced a new bus stand for Sirhind that will be constructed by the Pepsu Road Transport Corporation (PRTC) and proposed the name of the new National Highway from Patiala to Panyali via Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib and Morinda as Mata Gujri Marg. He said the proposal had already been submitted to the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI).

He said the government had prepared a special plan for the development of historical tourism sites as well as beautification of the Fatehgarh Sahib-Sirhind area. He also announced to develop Sirhind Choe from Fatehgarh Sahib to Sirhind at a cost of Rs 5.71 crore.

Later, Capt Amarinder partook of langar. He was presented a memorandum by SGPC member Karnail Singh Panjoli, urging the CM to complete Sahadat-e-Safar Marg, the way through which Mata Gujri and Sahibzade came to Fatehgarh Sahib as it was left incomplete. He also demanded to develop the sub-jail Bassi Pathana, which is lying deserted. Guru Teg Bahadur on way to Delhi remained here. The Chief Minister assured to do the needful.

In the evening, SAD chief Sukhbir Badal also came to pay tributes to the Sahibzade. He refused to talk to mediapersons. He did not go to the religious conference organised by the SGPC, where Prem Singh Chandumajra and other leaders were present.
