Chandigarh, September 15
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab senior leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema has termed the formation of the Election Manifesto Implementation Committee headed by Lal Singh by the Congress as misleading the people. Cheema said a committee of the Aam Aadmi Party is being constituted to review every point of the 129-page manifesto of the Congress in the year 2017. The people will be made aware about the truth revealed in the review by going from door to door, street to street and locality. The AAP will expose the fraud of the Congress by going among the people, he said.
Harpal Singh Cheema raised the question that when the Congress government is claiming to have fulfilled 92 percent of the promises, then for what reasons the implementation committee was formed. He said the Congress has constituted this committee only to mislead the people by manipulating the figures, but ‘cunning doesn’t work again and again’. Cheema was addressing the media during a press conference held at the party headquarters here on Thursday. Party’s spokesperson Jagtar Singh Sanghera, Dinesh Chadha and Govinder Mittal were also present on the occasion. Along with this, the AAP has demanded the Chief Electoral Officer (Commissioner) of the country to recognize the election manifesto as a legal document, so that no political party can dare to make false promises to the people.
Challenging the Captain government by citing several promises, Harpal Singh Cheema said the government should tell how many homeless Dalits in Punjab have been given houses and plots of five marlas each. He asked that the Congress government should tell how many unemployed people have been given jobs. “The government should also tell how many youth are being given an unemployment allowance of Rs 2,500. The Captain government should tell how many homeless families of backward classes are given free houses under the Chief Minister’s Housing Scheme,” he questioned.
The AAP leader challenged that if the government has the guts, then it should issue a list of employment given to the unemployed and how many homeless families were given houses. Harpal Singh Cheema also slammed the Captain government on drug de-addiction, education sector, corruption, loan waiver of farmer-farming laborers and mafia rule including employment and free house. He said the Captain government is claiming to give jobs to 16 lakh youth in the state; but the truth is that 10 lakh of these people are those who have taken various types of loans from banks. The Congress government is trying to show this loan as a job, he added.
He said the industrial sector of Punjab was also on the verge of marginalization as no new units could be established in the state. Cheema said the same Congress government, which is today describing itself as a benevolent of the farmers, had supported all the three black farm laws. “All three black farm laws have been brought by the BJP, Congress government and the Akali Dal Badal,” he said.
Describing the state’s education system as crumbling, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Captain government had announced the opening of 50 new colleges in the state; but even in four-and-a-half-years, only six colleges were opened. “There is no building for them and no new staff and teachers have been recruited. Fifty percent of colleges do not even have a permanent principal,” he added. Holding the Captain government of the Congress responsible for suicides of the farmers, Cheema said, “The Congress government is also hiding employment information and is shying away from giving information in RTI also.”
