Chandigarh, January 15 : Leader of Opposition in Punjab Vidhan Sabha, Sukhpal Singh Khaira and Lok Insaf Party (LIP) MLAs Bains brothers on Sunday questioned the silence of Chandigarh police over registering FIR in alleged ‘bribery audio clip’ in which the name of a sitting HC judge finds repeated mention.

As per press statement of Khaira and Bains released on Sunday, they claimed to have learnt that the Chandigarh police had recorded the statement of tout and go between Amit Chaudhary, former Deputy Advocate General, Punjab, wherein he has admitted that the voice in the 5.22 minutes audio clip was very much his own. They also claimed that the Chandigarh police had summoned TK Goel, former PCS officer who recorded the conversation, but let him off on the ground that he would first meet the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court and then hand over the original audio clip to the police.

Now that four senior most judges of the Supreme Court had come out publically to expose malfunctioning in the administration of Supreme Court and have held the CJI responsible for it, it is all the more imperative that the Chandigarh police should probe the bribery audio clip after registering the FIR, they m,aintained.

Both AAP and LIP MLAs wondered why the Chandigarh police was taking such a sensational bribery matter so casually? Is it under pressure from some political hierarchy or is it afraid to investigate persons connected with the judiciary, they questioned.

Both alleged that they had these apprehensions because they had personally met the Chief Justice of P unjab and Haryana High Court in the presence of two senior most judges on November 27, 2017, to explain the chronology of the alleged audio clip, but unfortunately no action has been taken in the matter. “There is every possibility that there is pressure to prevent an investigation as a name of sitting judge is repeatedly mentioned in the alleged bribery audio clip,” they alleged.

Khaira and Bains said that registration of a FIR was a legitimate right of all citizens under the Constitution of India. The Chandigarh police should first register a FIR and then proceed against the culprits, as they would be empowered with summoning and if need be arresting the accused, they demanded.
