With 88% of expected wheat procured, Ludhiana heads towards smooth end of Rabi season

As the procurement of around 88 % of the expected wheat in the grain markets/purchase centers of the district, the current Rabi procurement season was heading towards a smooth end in Ludhiana.
Divulging the details while reviewing ongoing procurement operations, Deputy Commissioner Varinder Kumar Sharma, said that around 9-Lakh metric ton wheat was expected in the district. He said that till yet the administration had procured 790266 metric ton of wheat in the various grain markets/ purchase centers, which was 88 % of the total expected to produce.
He said that since the starting of procurement of grains in the district 790266 metric ton wheat had arrived in the markets across the district and the entire stock had been procured by the agencies.
Similarly, the Deputy Commissioner said that nearly 67 % of procured produce had been lifted so far. Sharma further said that so far payment worth Rs 1198.75 crore had been made to the farmers.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration was firmly committed to procure and lift every single grain of farmers.
He said that during the entire procurement season, officials of the food supply, procurement agencies, and the Mandi board remained in the field to ensure seamless procurement by facilitating the peasantry through the prompt purchase of their harvest as soon as they stepped into the markets.
Sharma asked the officers to ensure that the remaining golden grains were also procured in a smooth and hassle-free manner.
