Slamming Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on the issue of drugs, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA and Youth Wing president Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer said that despite taking oath by Captain Amarinder, ‘Chitta’ was being sold openly in the state and youth were fainting or dying due to overdose. Hayer asked the Chief Minister that he had sworn on Sri Gutka Sahib on the land of Malwa that he would break the backbone of drugs in four weeks but even today drugs were breaking the backbone of the youth, an example of which came to light in Bathinda.

Elaborating on the situation in Punjab, Hayer said that today’s situation was that a husband and wife living in Bathinda had reached the brink of death due to overdose of ‘Chitta’ which were saved by the doctors. He said that as per the woman among the couple, she stated that one can get drugs from anywhere and ‘Chitta’ can be found anywhere in Bathinda; which proves that Captain Amarinder Singh could not eradicate drugs from the state in his four years of rule and these drugs were still immolating thousands of youth today.

Hayer further said that a few days back a policeman was also found unconscious in Bathinda due to overdose. “These incidents show that Captain Amarinder Singh’s Congress government has completely reneged on all the promises made before the last assembly elections, including drugs,” he added. He said that their promises and oaths were only to plunder the state’s economy by gaining state power, which had been satiated by Congress MLAs and leaders, including the Chief Minister and ministers. Hayer hoped that the people of Punjab would question the leaders who had promised to eradicate drugs from the state and would punish these leaders for reneging on their promises in the forthcoming assembly elections.

The AAP leader said that Captain Amarinder Singh had reneged on every promise he had made to the youth before the 2017 elections which was making the youth of the state feel cheated. Hayer said that Captain Amarinder Singh had failed to provide employment to the people of the state due to which the youth were drowning in the mire of drugs. “Before the elections, Captain used to claim that he would arrest the drug smugglers and throw them in jail but after coming to power he was patronising the drug smugglers,” said Hayer. He alleged that the Congressmen were now involved in the drug trade started by the Akalis. Hayer said that the youth of Punjab were witnessing all this and would give a befitting reply to the Congress government in the coming elections.
