Woman accuses SHO of detaining, thrashing her

Muktsar, February 3: A 35-year-old Dalit woman of Kotbhai village in Gidderbaha subdivision today alleged that the SHO of the Kotbhai police station had illegally confined her for 14 hours and assaulted her. She is admitted to the Civil Hospital here.

The victim, Binder Kaur, said her brother had eloped with a girl a few days ago. “We had disowned him in 2007 for his bad habits, but the SHO took me to the police station and kept me there for 14 hours on January 29.

Strict action will be taken if the SHO is found guilty.”Meanwhile, Dalit leaders said if the police did not act against the SHO, they would launch a stir.The SHO has a controversial past. The SAD leadership too had lodged a protest outside the police station last year when the grandson of a freedom fighter was allegedly tortured by the SHO.
