Chandigarh, October 6:The radio diagnosis department will hold region’s first 2-day PGI interventional neuroradiology conference (PINCON2017) from Friday. The meeting is being organized under the guidance of professor N Khandelwal, chairperson and head of department of radio diagnosis, PGIMER and professor Vivek Gupta, organising secretary.

During the course of two days there will be lectures, recorded case videos and panel discussions deliberating on the topic of managing intracranial aneurysms. The aim of the conference is to highlight the role of interventional neuroradiology in managing the cerebral aneurysms in a minimally invasive and safe way. More than 150 national and international experts and delegates in the field of interventional neuroradiology and endovascular surgery will gather and discuss about the various techniques which can be used to treat cerebral aneurysms. Cerebral aneurysms is a condition which results from abnormal dilatation of a part of brain arteries which rupture in due course and can cause devastating cerebral haemorrhage which is also commonly called as Haemorrhagic stroke.

Endovascular treatment of these aneurysms can be done by a half an inch hole in the groin without actually opening the skull or handling the brain. Patient recovery in this kind of procedure is faster than surgical approach with lesser side effects.
