Honeypreet gave Rs 1.25 cr to Dera men to incite violence, is misleading probe: Police

Chandigarh, Oct 6: A day after getting six-day remand of rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan, the Panchkula police claimed she was the main handler of cash generated and distributed in the Sirsa-headquartered dera. Even family members of the dera chief were “living at her mercy” as she was the one giving them cash, said probe officers.

Specifically, it is alleged that she was the one who distributed Rs 1.25 crore to some dera men to arrange logistics for inciting violence in Panchkula on August 25 if the dera chief was convicted in the rape case.

Underlining these claims, police commissioner AS Chawla said at a press conference, “We have evidence, including recovery of Rs 24 lakh from one of the dera followers that clearly indicated that money used to incite violence was routed through her.”

Their plan, he said, was to help the dera chief escape, if convicted, on the way to Ambala as they were under the impression that he would be taken to the Ambala jail. But their plan failed as the “baba” was directly taken to the Rohtak jail.

Sources said Honeypreet’s role came forth through the dera chief’s private security in-charge Preetam Singh, who was arrested for making an attempt to help him escape outside the local court after his conviction. Sources added that the dera chief’s Baba’s private secretary Rakesh Kumar too had testified on Honeypreet’s role in the violence.

“A lookout notice was issued for her with the intervention of senior officials that very night when it was learnt that she had eloped from outside the Rohtak jail. That was to make sure she did not leave the country,” a senior officer said.

Chawla said she is “showing resistance” during the interrogation. “She was taken to different places in order to certify what she said in her interrogation. But she is misleading in many of her statements. If she will not cooperate with the police, we will seek her further remand when she will be produced before the local court on October 10.” Police have claimed before the court that she was part of a meeting held at the dera on August 17 to hatch a conspiracy ahead of the court verdict. Cops suspect the dera chief too was privy to the meeting; and he may be booked on these charges too.

However, about a possible lie-detection test through narco-analysis, Chawla said there is no plan yet. “But we are not ruling out anything.”

After the arrest of Honeypreet, attention of the police has shifted also to arresting her co-accused, dera spokesperson Aditya Insan, who is on the run ever since he was seen allegedly inciting dera followers after the chief’s conviction. Sources said police have identified a person who is on the run with Aditya. “We are close to arresting him,” said Chawla.
