Chandigarh, May 20
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab president and Member of Parliament Bhagwant Mann said that the people of Punjab were suffering due to the Covid-19 pandemic; however Captain Amarinder Singh and other Congressmen were busy twisting each other’s arms instead of supporting the people during this Covid crisis. He said that in Delhi, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had made strenuous efforts to save lives and announced cash and pensions for the well-being of Covid victim’s families. Addressing a press conference convened at the party headquarters here on Thursday, Bhagwant Mann said that the Arvind Kejriwal government has decided to give Rs 2,500 to children up to the age of 25 who are helpless due to the Covid pandemic in Delhi, while on the death of a family member with Covid, it has been decided to give a pension of Rs 2,500.
Mann said that a compensation of Rs 50,000 has also been announced for the death of a breadwinner with Covid, while orders have also been issued to provide free rations to 72 lakh people including poor families without ration cards living in Delhi. He appealed to Captain Amarinder Singh to learn from the Arvind Kejriwal government in Delhi and said that it was the responsibility of the government to help the people in times of trouble. Mann said that secondly, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh had failed miserably in dealing with the Covid pandemic and providing financial assistance to the families affected by it. He alleged that the Captain’s government had also turned down the announcement of a budget of Rs 50 lakh for Corona fighters.
Taking a dig at Captain Amarinder Singh, Mann said that the Captain government had left the people of Punjab homeless and that was why some private hospitals were indiscriminately looting the people in the name of Covid treatment. “There is no such thing as a government in Punjab as Captain Amarinder Singh was enjoying at his farms in the cold valleys,” he added. The AAP leader further said that Captain Amarinder Singh was ruling Punjab in dictatorial ways like Punjab was Captain’s princely state. He demanded that Captain Amarinder Singh should convene an all party meeting and a special session of the Legislative Assembly to deal with the Covid pandemic.
Mann said that the Akali and the Congress would definitely be found guilty in the court of the people as like the Badals; the Congress government had also established mafia rule in Punjab. “The Captain government did not punish the culprits of sacrilege and now the Congress ministers and leaders are afraid to go to the villages,” he added. Mann appealed to the Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh to work for the salvation of Punjab and the people during the tenure of the Congress government. On the occasion, MLA and state Kissan Wing president Kultar Singh Sandhwan, MLAs Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Amarjeet Singh Sandoa, party’s state general secretary Harchand Singh Barsat and state treasurer Neena Mittal were also present.
