Chandigarh, July 19

In a major blow to the ruling Congress party in Kapurthala district, former Congress candidate from Bholath constituency Ranjit Singh Rana and Bholath Youth Congress president Harsimran Singh Ghuman, joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday along with hundreds of their associates and supporters. The leaders were formally inducted and welcomed by AAP’s Punjab Affairs co-incharge and MLA from Delhi Raghav Chadha, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Harpal Singh Cheema and state general secretary Harchand Singh Barsat at the party headquarters here.

Welcoming Ranjit Singh Rana and advocate Harsimran Singh Ghuman, Raghav Chadha said that all those who want prosperity of Punjab are welcomed in the AAP. He said that the people of the state had realized that only the Aam Aadmi Party was fighting for the welfare of Punjab, whereas the Congress and the Akali were fighting only for seats. Harpal Singh Cheema said that the people of Punjab were looking at the Aam Aadmi Party as the future of the state and that is why the convoy of the Aam Aadmi Party is growing every day.

Speaking on the occasion, Ranjit Singh Rana and advocate Harsimran Singh Ghuman said that like the majority of the people of Punjab, they were impressed by the work done by Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi and were striving to form a corruption free and pro-people government in Punjab like Delhi. Criticising MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Ranjit Singh Rana said that by winning on AAP’s support, Khaira had betrayed the people’s decision and the people of Punjab would no longer trust him. He said that history has shown that wherever Khaira has gone, he has created a mess (Khilara).

It may be recalled that Ranjit Singh Rana had contested from Bholath Assembly constituency in 2017 from the Congress party. He has also been the Punjab president of the Truck Union, Sarpanch of the village and Chairman and Director of the Cooperative Bank. On the occasion, supporters of Ranjit Singh Rana, panch-sarpanch, Block Samiti and Zila Parishad members and Youth Congress workers were present in large numbers.
