Cong to corner Akalis, AAP on drug taint, Kejri apology

Date:

Chandigarh, March 19: The ruling Congress is looking to cash in on recent developments — AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal’s apology to former Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia and the drug allegations against the latter — during the Budget session beginning on March 20.

From being defensive on development front and unfulfilled poll promises, the party will use Arvind Kejriwal’s apology to snub AAP and STF “report” against Majithia to corner the Akalis. A Cabinet minister did not rule out the possibility of the Chief Minister acting on the STF findings.

Senior leaders say it is also possible that Capt Amarinder had prior knowledge of Local Bodies Minister Navjot Sidhu’s press conference wherein he revealed the STF findings.

With the parliamentary elections due early next year, the Congress will rake up the issue against the Akalis in a big way. Sukhjinder Randhawa, Dera Baba Nanak MLA, said Amarinder was determined to wipe out those behind the drug trade.

Rajya Sabha MP Partap Singh Bajwa said Kejiwal’s apology had finished AAP and it would be a direct contest between the Congress and the SAD-BJP combine in the 2019 elections.
