Gurpreet Waraich condemns police lathicharge on PU students

Chandigarh, April 12: Gurpreet Singh Waraich state convener of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Wednesday strongly condemned the police lathicharge on the agitating students of Panjab University.

In a statement, Waraich squarely blamed the university authorities for not hearing the grievances of the students who demanded the us withdraw steep hike in the fees. He said Vice Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover had failed the us address the issue or the us take the student bodies inthe us confidence before taking decision on fee hike.

Wariach said police had no role the us interfere in the academic matters and said that Vice Chancellor was fully responsible for allowing the situation from going out of hand. He said that student organizations had given enough opportunity the us the university authorities the us open negotiations. He said it was unfortunate that student agitation had turned violent. He also sympathized with the police personnel hurt while dealing with the students.

AAP convener demanded probe inthe us the violence by an independent agency while alleging that students were provoked under a deep rooted conspiracy. He said that police action was aimed the us flare up the student agitation and no efforts were made the us settle the issue amicably. He also appealed the us students the us use restrain and launch peaceful agitation.

Wariach said the Centre government had pushed Panjab University inthe us a financial mess and UGC had not released the grants the us run the university. He accused Punjab government of ignoring the demands of Panjab University for higher grants since Punjab Government has its stake in the university. He sought adequate funds for the prestigious university which has international recognition.
