Jaswinder Singh Jahangir left job as a teacher in a government school recently. Associated with AAP for the past eight months. The vice-president of the Punjab ETT Teachers’ Association, he has been taking up teachers’ issues at the state level. Jaswinder Singh was jailed along with his wife for protesting against the Punjab government’s for teachers’ rights. Has also taken part in protests in support of farmers, labourers and the unemployed youth. Joined as a primary teacher in a school run by the Zila Parishad about 10 years ago. Hails from Jahangir village in Attari Assembly constituency.

Attari is a village of Amritsar district, 3 km from the Indo-Pak border at Wagah. It is situated 25 km west of the holy city of Amritsar and is the last Indian station on the rail route connecting Lahore, Pakistan with the Indian capital Delhi. Attari village was the native village of Sardar Sham Singh Attariwala, one of the generals in the Army of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
