Chandigarh, December 29: Charanjit Singh Chadha, former president of the Chief Khalsa Diwan and a prominent Amritsar hotelier, is all set to be booked for allegedly outraging the modesty of a school principal. A video clip of the alleged incident was leaked on social media recently.

DGP Suresh Arora has directed the Amritsar police to take due legal action after the victim e-mailed him a formal complaint.

The video, in which Chadha was allegedly seen trying to outrage the modesty of the woman in the office of his hotel, leaked two days ago. Chadha has claimed that it was a fake video meant to blackmail him. He had earlier lodged a complaint against a former employee and others three months ago in Jalandhar, alleging blackmail.

The woman has complained to the DGP that she had kept silent all these months fearing Chadha’s influential status and social backlash. She said she had made a formal complaint after the video leak. She said the video clearly showed that he was sexually harassing her.

She said she had been working with Chief Khalsa Diwan, a charitable organisation known for its social work on education and health, and propagation of Sikhism, for 22 years. She said Chadha used to treat her with respect and many times, he would ask her to arrange gifts and bouquets for guests at the school at the last minute. The bills were later reimbursed to her.

She said Chadha had made advances towards her in the past also, but she had ignored it. But that day, he tried to force her into a relationship and threatened her with dire consequences, citing his connections in the government if she told anyone about the incident, she alleged.

The incident has sparked a controversy in religious and political circles. Chadha is considered close to several leaders of the Congress and the SAD. He was reportedly removed from the post earlier today after several office-bearers of the diwan and representatives of other Sikh organisations demanded his resignation.
