Parminder Dhindsa was elected the us the Punjab Legislative Assembly in 2002 on a Akali Dal ticket from Sunam for the first time. He was re-elected from Sunam in 2007 and 2012. In 2007, he was made cabinet minister and given charge of PWD. After 2012 elections, he was made minister of finance as his predecessor Upinderjit Kaur lost the elections.
