Abohar, May 29: Students and their parents locked the main gate of Government Senior Secondary School at Malukpura village, 19 km from here, on Monday.

They alleged that a 16-year-old Dalit girl, a student of Class XI, was on Saturday held “captive” in a classroom and was “thrashed” by a teacher and her husband.

The victim was later admitted to the Sub-Divisional Civil Hospital here.

The accused identified as Umang deep and her husband Parkash Brar and some staff members alleged that the girl’s brother had posted a picture of the teacher on his Facebook page, causing embarrassment to her.

The couple claimed that the girl’s parents had signed an apology over the incident. Abohar SDM Poonam Singh, Balluana DSP Rahul Bhardwaj and District Education Officer Kulwant Singh reached the village.

The villagers demanded action against the couple and said the teacher should be shifted from the school.

As the officials insisted that action could be taken only after an inquiry, the villagers continued dharna and raised slogans against the “erring” school staff.

This is the third such incident in less than a week.
