Mohali, April 4: The Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) authorities are working towards reducing the weight of bags of schoolchildren by removing redundant study material from syllabus books.
Confirming the development, PSEB Chairman Manohar Kant Kalohia said senior officials along with subject experts were on the job.“We have already completed the task for Classes I to V. The books for Classes VI to VIII are being scrutinised for the purpose. After that, the job will be done for Classes IX to XII,” said Kalohia.
He added that the number of pages in books for Classes I to V is lesser than that in previous year. “We are targeting the redundant study material in the books, which will be removed. Besides, there will be changes in syllabus to lessen the burden on students,” said the chairman.
He added that for small classes emphasis would be laid on storytelling, attractive photographs and other catchy study material. The number of pages in the books had been decreased.
“We are also emphasising to teach the students more about our state, its history, culture and renowned persons. Work is on in this direction too. There will be several interesting changes in our syllabus and books in the next session,” said Kalohia.
According to him, the board will publish around 1.9 crore books this year. “Most of the books for this year have already been published. There will be no delay in the delivery of books this year,” said Kalohia.
