Chandigarh, May 9: Two unknown persons made off with gold and diamond jewellery worth Rs 8 lakh and some cash from a businessman’s house in Sector 35. The victim had called the accused to repair a locker in which the jewellery and the money were kept.

The complainant, Chander Arora, reported that gold and diamond ornaments worth Rs 8 lakh were stolen.

The police said the complainant had met a key-maker near his house and he told him to visit his house to repair the locker, which had got jammed.

The accused, accompanied by his accomplice, visited the complainant’s house on April 30. “The accused opened the locker and put jewellery and the cash in their bag. They later claimed that they were unable to open the locker and told the complainant to call someone else,” the police said.

The accused then left the house. On May 7, when another key-maker visited the house and opened the locker, the complainant found it empty.
