Sangrur, July 17: The Dhuri city police have arrested Jamin Khan (65), an accomplice of slain gangster Sukha Kahlwan, with 1.5-kg opium. He is a retired Sub-Inspector of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). Three members of Jamin’s family have also been arrested — his son, Aadil Khan (23), brother Shokin Khan (45) and the latter’s son, Shahrukh Khan (20).
Sandeep Garg, SSP, said: “Our police party arrested four persons on Sunday night near the Market Committee office in Dhuri and seized opium from their SUV. Jamin, who took retirement on medical grounds in 1982, belongs to Jakhal town in Haryana. Kahlwan used to stay at his residence. He was involved in crimes committed by Kahlwan in Fatehabad, Jalandhar and Tohana city.”
During a preliminary investigation, it has come to light that Jamin is facing six FIRs under the NDPS Act and the Arms Act, registered at Dirba, Jakhal, Jalandhar, Fatehabad and Tohana police stations.
“Due to his involvement in criminal activities, the CRPF authorities stopped his pension in 1997. Jamin had purchased opium from Madhya Pardesh and was going to deliver it to Shigara Singh on the airport road near Zirakpur,” the SSP said.
Sukha Kahlwan had been shot dead by members of a rival gang in January 2015.
