Sulkhan Singh Jaggi, 43, a progressive farmer, is the party’s candidate from Mukerian, while Sikh preacher and social worker Swaroop Singh Khadiana, 41, will contest from Phillaur.

Constituency

Mukerian is the biggest municipal council of Hoshiarpur district of Punjab. Mukerian has an average elevation of 245 metres (803 feet). As of 2011 Census, Mukerian city had a population of 29889. Males constituted 52% of the population and females 48%. Mukerian has an average literacy rate of 77%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 80%, and female literacy is 74%. In Mukerian, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age.
