HC directs government to ensure law and order, notice to DGP, president SAD

Chandigarh, December 8, 2017: Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday issued notice to Punjab government, Punjab DGP and president of Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) office on the plea against road blockades during ongoing MC polls process and for maintaining law and order.

The HC Bench comprising Justice AK Mittal, and Justice Amit Rawal issued notice for December 13, 2017

The HC also directed the Punjab government to maintain law and order till completion of the poll process and invoke Section 144 wherever required as part of security measures to keep the situation under control.

Advocate Varinder Singh filed the petition in the HC seeking directions to the state government to ensure adequate security arrangements for residents of Ferozepur district and surrounding areas especially those commuting through National Highway and other link roads which are blocked by protesters from political parties during the ongoing poll process.
